With each day bringing us closer to the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey, everyone is talking about who to cast as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, well, everyone except the movie studios.
The Fifty Shades of Grey books are character driven, so who’ll play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the movies is something that means a lot to the fans, so what’s the best way to cast our protagonists? Do we pick individuals or real life couples to represent Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey up on the big screen? Since chemistry is vitally important for the sexually charged scenes between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, perhaps taking the route with real life couples might be an interesting way to convey that attraction on screen.
First up as our Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey candidates are newlyweds Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel. Justin Timberlake has quite a few fans who are dying to see him play Christian, but whether the couple can pull off Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey effectively remains to be seen. Justin might fit the bill, but 30-year-old conventionally hot Biel doesn’t quite cut it as awkward, 20-year-old Anastasia.
Channing Tatum fits many fans’ mental picture for Christian Grey, but the Magic Mike star said he’d only take on the role of the S&M loving billionaire if his wife Jenna would make up the other half of the Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey duo. When Tatum was interviewed by UK Glamour Magazine he responded to taking up the part of Christian Grey with: “Yes, I’d only be allowed if my wife was Ana. She’s read the books so I don’t think she’d be impressed if she couldn’t be Ana!” Tatum’s wife, a professional dancer and actress, may be an unknown, but she does have some acting credits and perhaps could manage to convey Anastasia.
When people mention Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, many imagine Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the role. This seems natural since Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey were based on Bella and Edward from the Twilight novels, so it’s easy to see why they’re a huge fan favorite. However, EL James wants to move away from the Twilight franchise as far as The Movie Fifty Shades of Grey is concerned.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are both on the list as favorites for Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey individually, so their being a couple might add some extra spice if they’re cast in the movies. Out of the couples on the list, it looks like this Vampire Diaries’ pair have the best chance of winning Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the casting wars.
One thing that’s for sure, casting directors are going to have to take in sexual chemistry between the actors who will play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the 50 Shades movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey. It’s possible with individual actors, but maybe it’ll make things easier to enlist a couple as Anastasia and Christian.
